Runner Hit by Deflected Batted Ball

With two outs and the bases loaded, the batter hits a hard grounder that hits the pitcher and deflects directly toward the shortstop. The shortstop will have plenty of time to throw to any base to force out a runner and end the inning -- except the deflected ball strikes R2 as he runs between second and third base. All runners advance and R3 scores.

The defensive coach argues that a runner hit by a batted ball is out. Everyone agrees that the deflected ball was traveling directly to the shortstop and a force out was likely -- had R2 not been struck.

What do the umpires do now?

Call
When a batted ball is deflected by an infielder, if the runner is unintentionally struck by the deflected ball, no interference should be called (NF 8-4-2k).

In the play below, since R2 did not intentionally interfere with the deflected ball,
there is no interference -- play on!
