Two-Runner Base Award on Out of Play

With no outs and a runner on first base (R1), the batter (B1) hits a fair fly ball to right field. R1 goes halfway to second base to see if the fly ball is caught or dropped, while B1 touches and rounds first base. The fly ball falls in fair territory and the right fielder throws toward first base in order to attempt to back-pick B1.

The right fielder's throw is wild and goes out of play. At the time of the throw from the outfield, both R1 and B1 were between first and second base.

Where should R1 and B1 be placed?

Call
When two runners are between the same bases on an overthrow into dead ball territory, the lead runner receives two bases and the following runner is awarded one base, since both runners cannot share the same base award (NF 8-3-3c3).

In the play below, R1 is awarded third base and B1 is awarded second base.
