Runner Misses Home Plate

With two outs and a runner (R2) on second base, the batter (B1) singles to the outfield. R2 attempts to score, so the outfielder throws to home. The catcher catches the outfielder's throw, swipes at the sliding R2, but clearly misses the tag at home. However, R2 also clearly fails to touch home plate on his slide.

After the missed swipe tag, the catcher throws to second base to easily retire B1 for the third out of the inning. Does R2's run count?

Call
When a runner fails to touch a base, he is at risk of being called out upon proper appeal (NF 8-2).

In the situation below, R2's run counts unless it is properly appealed by the defense. Since it was not appealed, the run counts.
