Batter-Runner Hit by Batted Ball
The right-handed batter hits the pitch and the ball chops just in front of the plate in fair territory. As the batter begins to leave the batter's box, the ball unintentionally hits the batter. The umpires have one of the three following choices, dependent on the location of the batter's feet:
1) The ball is dead and the batter is out
2) The ball is dead and the pitch is treated as a foul ball
3) The ball is live and in play -- play on!
Which of the above three choices should be called if the batted ball hits the batter while:
A) Both of the batter's feet are within the batter's box
B) One foot is within the batter's box and the other foot is on the chalk line of the batter's box
C) One foot is within the batter's box and the other foot is on the ground completely out of the batter's box
D) One foot is on the chalk line of the batter's box and the other foot is on the ground completely out of the batter's box
E) Both feet are completely out of the batter's box
