Base Coach Interferes With Play

1. With no outs and no one on base, the batter grounds to the shortstop, but the shortstop's throw to 1st base is wild. The throw strikes the 1st base coach, who is in foul territory, but outside of the coach's box. The first base coach tried hard to avoid the throw, but the throw hit the coach and bounced out of play? What does the umpire do now?

Call
1. Since the coach did not intentionally interfere with the over-throw, play continues. The shortstop's throw went out of play, so the batter-runner is awarded two bases from the time of the pitch (2nd base in this case).

2. The batter triples to right field. The right fielder's throw to 3rd base gets past the 3rd baseman. As the third baseman is chasing the ball in foul territory, he collides with the 3rd base coach (who was in foul territory, but out of the coach'box and attempting to avoid the 3rd baseman).  Meanwhile, the batter scores because the 3rd baseman was knocked off his feet during the collision with the 3rd base coach. What does the umpire do now?

2. The penalty on this situation is similar to the #1 above -- play on -- the run scores. Some that responded to this question thought that the penalty was the same as when a base coach interferes (intentionally or unintentionally) with the defense's attempt to catch a pop-up foul ball. In that case, the batter is out, but in questions #2 -- play on!
