Wood Bats in NFHS

The batter walks up to the plate and steps into the batter's box. Before a pitch, the catcher comments that his non-wood bat looks really old. The batter comments that the bat was his older brother's from a couple of years ago. The plate umpire examines the bat and finds that it has a BESR label, but not a BBCOR label. Before the batter sees a pitch, the umpire sends the batter back to the dugout to get a legal bat. Is that the right action? If not, then what?

Call
In this case, yes... this is one of those rare times that the defense gets an out for doing very little. The batter is out as soon as he enters the batter's box with an illegal bat (NF 7-4-1a) and the head coach is restricted to the bench for the rest of the game (NF 4-1-3b has a detailed explanation).
