Warm-Up Pitches after Injury

The lead-off batter hits a line drive up the middle, striking the pitcher's knee. The batter-runner is safe at first, but the pitcher, while not hurt badly, cannot continue. The defensive coach motions for the center fielder to take the mound. How many warm-up pitches should this new pitcher be allowed?

Call
Relief pitchers are usually limited to 8 warm-up pitches, completed in 1 minute, timed from the first throw. If there is an injury, ejection, or an inclement weather issue, the umpire can allow more pitches (NF 6-2-2).

Also remember that in NF, pitchers can return to pitch (later in an inning or later in the game). However, if the umpire allowed more than 8 warm-up pitches for a relief pitcher, the pitcher who was replaced cannot return to pitch in that game (NF 3-1-2).

In the situation below, the relief pitcher (the former center fielder) can be allowed more than 8 warm-up pitches.
