Catcher's Throw Goes out of Play
With the bases loaded, the first pitch to the batter is in the dirt, bounces off the catcher and rolls towards the first base dugout. The runner on third base advances toward home as the catcher retrieves the pitch and throws toward home (where the pitcher is covering).
However, the catcher's throw is wild, goes past the pitcher, and into the third base dugout. The defensive coach argues that since this was a pitch from the rubber, each runner should be awarded one base (R3 scores while R2 and R1 move up one base).
The offensive coach would like a more generous award. What do the umpires do now?
