Double Play on Ground Ball?

With no outs and a runner on second base (R2) and first base (R1), the batter hits a ground ball to the shortstop, who is standing directly in the base path between 2nd and 3rd base.

Since the shortstop is in the base path, instead of "running into the out", R2 surprisingly runs back toward second base and the shortstop chases him.

With R2 now standing firmly on second base, the shortstop tags R2 and then tags the second base bag BEFORE R1 arrives. Who is out on this play?

BONUS Question: What if the shortstop first tags the second base bag (before R1 arrives) and then tags R2 while R2 is standing on second base. Who is out on this play?

Call
When there are two runners on the same base at the same time and both are tagged, the runner who was forced to advance (but did not advance) is out (NF 8-2-8a).

In the situation below, R2 was forced to advance to third base but did not. While R2 was standing on second base, R2 was not protected from being tagged out, so R2 is out when tagged by the shortstop. Since the shortstop then tagged the second base bag before R1 arrived, R1 is also out.

For the bonus question, the shortstop tagged the second base bag before R1 arrived, so R1 is out -- AND the force on runners ahead of R1 is removed. Once the force is removed, BOTH the second and third base bag protects R2 from being tagged out, so R2 is safe in this case.
