Foot on Plate while Bunting
With a runner on third base (R3), the suicide squeeze is on. The pitch is outside, so in order for the batter (B1) to make contact with the pitch, B1 must step on the plate. With his foot on the plate, B1 lays down a good fair bunt. R3 easily scores but B1 is retired at first base.
The defense coach thinks there should be a penalty for stepping on the plate while bunting. The offensive coach counters that stepping on the plate was the only way that his batter had any chance of reaching the pitch to bunt it.
