Ball Thrown Out-of-Play in Infield

With a runner on first base (R1), R1 is stealing on the pitch. The batter (B1) grounds to the shortstop. The shortstop's throw to the second baseman at second base is late as R1 slides in safety. The second baseman then attempts to retire the slow-running batter but his throw to first base is wild and goes into the stands. Where do the umpires place B1 and R1?

Call
When an infielder's second play results in the ball thrown into dead ball territory, sthe runners are awarded bases from the time of the throw (NF 8-3-5 and casebook plays 8.3.5J and K).

In the play below, the second baseman's throw into dead ball territory was the second play by the defense, so B1 and R1 are awarded bases based on their position at the time of the second baseman's throw. R1 is awarded home and B1 is awarded second base.
