Game Situation: Force Out or Tag Play?

With a runner on first base (R1), 2 outs, and a full count on the batter (B1), R1 is running on the pitch.

B1 swings at the pitch in the dirt but misses. The pitch ricochets off the catcher's shin guard and rolls between the pitcher's mound and home plate. While the catcher chases after the dropped third strike, the batter does not realize that he is still not put out, so he walks back towards the dugout. Surprisingly, the catcher throws to 2nd base in an attempt to retire R1.

Must R1 be tagged since B1 is not advancing to 1st base -- or is the force still in effect (so only second base needs to be tagged)?

Call
In NF, in the situation below, the batter is out when he enters the bench/dugout. (Note that in NCAA and MLB, he is out when he leaves the dirt circle that surrounds home plate).

In the play below, the force is still in effect at both first and second base. R1 is out if he is tagged while off the base or if second base is tagged before R1 arrives.
