Outfielder Throws Ball Out of Play: Place the Runners
With two outs and a runner on first base (R1), the batter (B1) hits a real high pop up just behind second base. The center fielder runs in, calls off the infielders, and attempts to catch the pop-up. The ball bounces off his glove and bounces into the infield. The center fielder chases down the ball. B1 has not yet arrived at first base (but is close) so the center fielder throws to third base to try to retire R1, but he throws the ball out of play.
The B1 and R1 should be awarded two bases. However, if the throw was made by an infielder, the award is two bases from the time of the pitch (R1 gets 3rd and B1 gets 2nd base) . If the throw was made by an outfielder, the award is two bases from the time of the throw (R1 gets home and B1 gets 3rd base).
