The batter grounds to the 3rd baseman, who misplays the ball and does not make a throw to first... until he see the batter-runner touch 1st base and make the turn (the batter thought his hit went into the outfield). The 3rd baseman then fires the ball to 1st, but throws it out of play. This throw was the first throw/play by an infielder on a batted ball -- so where does the umpire place the batter-runner?
